Here we are at the end of section 2. Weaving was a little bit quicker today. I don't have gloves so my hands hurt quite a bit. I am beginning to think that I am going to run out of flag line especially since I had calculated for the Wegner weave and not the PK weave. Oh well.
It's been a really warm day and having to apply constant pressure during the wrapping process made me sweat like I'm in the Caribbean not Copenhagen. Still though, it looks promising so far. At first, I tried using the weaving method that is performed on the Wegner's Flagline Chair but after discussing with Flemming, Poul Kjaerholm's PK1 weaving style looked much more akin to what this chair should have… and judging by this first section I whole-heartedly agree.
Success!! All the connections have been welded. No major issues!
Since it's summer time and Århus Possementfabrick A/S is closed for two to three weeks for summer vacation, I've had a really hard time tracking down a source for flagline. Luckily one of our DIS faculty had worked with Thomas Bruun Olsen who specialises in restoring all the classic woven chairs. His workshop is located in Hillerød, which is about 40 minutes to an hour outside of Copenhagen. He was absolutely wonderful. He took the time to show me how flagline is applied.
Major mile stone today! The subframe assembly has been welded and the chair seems so much more real now.
Just to get a quick glimpse of the look and feel, I decided to tape up the rest of the frame to the chair.
It is quite large but that's by design.
